Enterprise Deployment
Enterprise Windows Backup — Remote Administration, Role-Based Access and Unlimited Scale
AnyFileBackup scales from a single workstation to enterprise-wide deployment on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Remote TCP administration, role-based access profiles, Windows domain authentication, audit logging, bulk task operations, and expandable concurrent task capacity cover the full operational spectrum.
Delegate task monitoring and control to operators without exposing the full configuration.
Role-Based Remote Access
AnyFileBackup exposes a TCP management interface that allows the Task Processor on one machine to be monitored and controlled from any other machine with a TCP connection to it — on a local network, over a VPN, or across the internet, provided the appropriate firewall rules are in place. Access is controlled by user-based profiles: each profile defines which tasks the remote operator can view, activate, deactivate, or force-start. A helpdesk operator can be given visibility and restart rights for a specific set of tasks without access to the full task list or configuration settings. For the always-on operation mode that makes remote management most useful, see Reliability Features.
The connecting machine runs AnyFileBackup in one of three installation modes: Server, Local, or UI only. The UI only mode is designed purely for remote management and is completely free — no licence is required on the connecting machine. Server and Local installations can also connect to and manage remote Task Processors in addition to their primary role. Remote access is available in both the trial and full versions; regular trial limitations apply to the managed machine.
Fits into existing Active Directory environments without special configuration or elevated domain rights.
Windows Domain and Service Account Support
LAN backup targets that require domain authentication — UNC shares on file servers, DFS paths, or mapped drives accessible via domain credentials — are configured using domain account profiles in AnyFileBackup's Accounts section. Standard Active Directory user accounts and workgroup credentials are both supported. Domain credentials are stored securely per profile and reused across any number of tasks that share the same target server.
When running as a Windows Service, Task Processor can be installed under a designated Windows service account rather than the local system account. This is the standard deployment pattern in domain environments: the service account is granted the minimum necessary permissions on the file servers and backup destinations it needs to access, and the service runs continuously under that account regardless of which user is logged on to the workstation or server.
Start with 50 simultaneous tasks and expand without limit as your operation grows.
Unlimited Task Scalability
The trial version supports up to 10 tasks. The full version raises this to 50 tasks out of the box. Capacity can be expanded using the Additional Tasks extension: each licence adds 50 tasks and is perpetual — purchased once with no renewal required. Any number of Additional Tasks licences can be stacked on a single full version installation, making it possible to scale to hundreds of concurrent tasks on a single machine.
A complete record of what ran, what transferred, and what failed — per task, per run.
Audit Log and Transfer Statistics
AnyFileBackup maintains a detailed execution log for every task run. The log records start and end times, the number of files scanned, the number of files transferred, total data volume, any errors encountered, and the outcome of each On Completion step. The log provides a sequential audit trail of what was transferred to which destination, and when.
Logging verbosity is configurable at the application level: lower levels capture run summaries and errors; higher levels record every individual file transfer — useful during initial setup, troubleshooting, or compliance auditing where a complete file-level record is required. AnyFileBackup can also send error notifications by email: immediately as each file error occurs, or accumulated into a single message per task at the end of a run. The accumulated mode requires the task's error handling to be set to Ignore and continue, so execution does not stop on the first failure.
Switch all tasks between active and standby in a single action — no editing each task individually.
Bulk Task Activation and Deactivation
In the full version, all tasks configured for Automatic activation start automatically when Task Processor starts — whether Task Processor launches at Windows logon or is started manually. To spread the load of building initial file lists across a large task set, each task can be assigned an activation delay of up to 60 seconds, staggering simultaneous activations.
The full version also provides Activate All and Deactivate All commands that switch every task between active and standby in a single action — useful in migration scenarios or emergency situations where all backup activity needs to be suspended or resumed immediately without editing each task individually. Tasks set to Disabled are not affected. Combined with remote management, these commands can be issued from another machine on the network without logging in locally to the backup server.
One button opens the management port in Windows Firewall — no manual rule editing, no GPO changes.
Windows Firewall Auto-Configuration
When remote TCP access is enabled, AnyFileBackup can add the required inbound rule to Windows Firewall automatically — a single button in the configuration interface creates the rule without manual editing. The automatic configuration covers Windows Defender Firewall only; environments using third-party or network-level firewalls will need to apply rules separately. Appropriate Windows permissions may be required to add the firewall rule.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many simultaneous tasks does the full version support?
The full version supports 50 simultaneous tasks out of the box. Capacity can be expanded with Additional Tasks extension licences — each adds 50 simultaneous tasks at €39 per computer, purchased once with no renewal. There is no upper limit on the number of extension licences that can be applied to a single installation. The trial version supports 10 simultaneous tasks.
Does AnyFileBackup support Windows Active Directory environments?
Yes. LAN backup targets that require domain credentials are configured using domain account profiles in the Accounts section. When running as a Windows Service, Task Processor can be installed under a designated domain service account — the standard deployment pattern in Active Directory environments.
Can I control which tasks a remote operator can see or modify?
Yes. Remote access is controlled by user-based profiles. Each profile specifies which tasks the operator can view, activate, deactivate, or force-start. An operator with a restricted profile cannot see or interact with tasks outside their permitted set, and cannot access configuration settings.
What does the audit log record?
The log records start and end times, files scanned, files transferred, data volume, errors, and the outcome of each On Completion step — per task, per run. Logging verbosity is configurable at the application level: lower levels capture run summaries and errors; higher levels record every individual file transfer for compliance auditing or troubleshooting.
Can I suspend all backup tasks at once?
Yes. The full version provides Activate All and Deactivate All commands that switch every task between active and standby simultaneously. Tasks set to Disabled are not affected. Combined with remote management, these can be triggered from another machine on the network without logging in locally to the backup server.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. AnyFileBackup offers a free 30-day trial — no registration required. Download the trial to evaluate the product before purchasing. Note that Automatic task activation and bulk operations are full version features and are not available in the trial.
